Migrating from Google Reader (Archived)

Before you begin importing, here are some notes on how this is implemented and any pitfalls to be weary of. Lilina imports what's known as an OPML file. OPML files simply contain a list of all your feeds, along with their feed titles and a link to the actual website. Some OPML files also contain the categories that your feeds belong to. Lilina imports these categories and saves them, but this data isn't currently used. This feature is planned for the future.

Migration

Step 1

Start by opening Google Reader in your browser.

No explanation needed here.

Step 2

Open your Settings and go to the Import/Export section.

You will of course need to be logged into do so. The Settings link is usually located in the top-right corner, but depending on your browser and any user styles you have for Google Reader, this may be different for you.

Step 3

Export your subscriptions as an OPML file and save to your computer.

Save the OPML file to your computer, as you'll need this later. It doesn't really matter where you save this to, but remember where you saved it to

Step 4

Open your Lilina administration panel and head to Import under the Feeds submenu.

Time to begin importing your feeds! You'll need to be logged into your admin panel to do so, naturally.

Step 5

Upload your OPML file using the form.

Hit the Browse button (may be named slightly differently in different browsers) and select your OPML file. Hit the import button after doing so and your OPML file will be temporarily uploaded to your server.

You're done! All your feeds from Google Reader should now be imported, along with their categories (although these aren't visible).
