I guess there is a specfic legislation, how can you define that Netvibes for instance, include other websites, in his template.. I'm not sure it is allowed in any terms
I ve read once, that if you add a feed agregator on a website, you can't auto add the link of the rss, and even can't add a "quick add button" which add the rss link to the agregator, the visitor has to put by himself the rss link.
But i can't refind this...
I have a website project, and dont want to have lawsuits.... For instance, can i add a left banner with rss feeds links, and include other websites in my website ? :/ I have to manage my website ergonomic in accordance with the law...
If you have a publicly available installation, you should get the permission of all the sites. As they are feeds, the site implicitly grants you permission.
I have readed google news rss conditions. It's a good example. I think you have to (if you don't ask for permission): > respect the source (in a case of agregation, specify the source for each item) > keep in mind that the provider can stop at every moment > use cache > don't rearrange item content (description or title) > Don't redistribute directly the content of other feeds on your own feed
I think if all this is respected, there is no reason to be out of law, even if you add a left banner. This the purpose of rss and it's a good thing for the feed provider. If a website don't want it, it should'nt make advertise about its feeds.
This case is very different from screen scraping (taking the content directly from html web pages).
Concerning Netvibes: > they use widgets wich are deposed by other people. It's like youtube for videos. It's not there business if people post illicit content. > They present their service like a personal tool. Like a desktop software, but inline. Not like a media wich appropriate for itself other contents.
And if you have doubts, ask for permission, this is a good way to promote your service and find partners.
